Sumire Hoshino (Britney Smiles in the Teletoon series) is the deuteragonist in the series. Although Sumire is a girl, she is so beautiful and officially addressed as "Perman 3". However, her teammates call her "Pako". Her secret identity, which she never reveals even to her teammates, is a famous child star, who feels more free and comfortable as Pako. She eventually falls in love with perman no 1 Mitsuo as they grow .

Appearance[]

Sumire has a short brown hair which most of the times is accompanied by a headband. As Sumire, she dresses like a celebrity. But as Pako, she wears her Perman set (a red helmet, green cape, and badge) and a pink frock.

Personality[]

She has a tomboyish, brave, bold, hot-headed, short-tempered and headstrong personality as Pako. As Pako, she acts bossy and gets angry about the wrong-doings of people around her, regardless of whether it is purposeful or not. She often argues with her fellow teammate Mitsuo. Be it scolding him for carrying out Perman's responsibilities properly or picking on him for liking Michiko, Pako is always dominating no lesser than that of a typical tsundere characters in animes. As Sumire, she acts calm, polite, gentle and respectful; that's why many fans think she has dual personality. But it's not actually dual personality. "Pako" is who Sumire is underneath. "Superstar Hoshino Sumire" is just a persona she has to put up for the sake of protecting her image as a celebrity as celebrities are bound to behave in a particular fashion. That's why she feels free when she is Pako. We've seen Sumire's bossy, short-tempered and hot-headed nature numerous times without wearing Perman set talking to Mitsuo over communication badge. Yes, Perman set might give her unimaginable amount of physical strength, but "Pako" is who Sumire truly is.

Relationships[]

Mitsuo Suwa[]

Mitsuo is the most special person in Sumire's life other than her grandma & actually he is Sumire's future husband & present love. She often calls him dumb and stupid, but she has an extremely soft spot for him deep inside her heart. Whenever Mitsuo is in trouble, she is always there first, indicating that he indeed is closest to her. Pako always takes good care of him and is fully aware of his likings and dislikings. She gets angry on him because she wants to make him perfect and make him understand how much she loves him. In the original manga, She reveals her identity to Mitsuo when he leaves Earth to become the next Birdman. Few years later we see Nobita talking to an older Sumire who said that she is still waiting for Mitsuo.

In the Animated 1987 Series, in multiple occassions, Sumire (aka Pako) tries to confess her feelings for Mitsuo (aka Perman). Sumire's copy robot knows this and teases her.

In the episode, "Big Harvest Because of Perman Power", when Sandy asked Pako to take care of Perman, she blushed and told "Yes absolutely". Payan & booby teased Perman that time as he blushed at her reply as well. In many episodes, Pako indirectly confessed her feelings to Perman that she likes him.

Sumire (Pako) successfully confessed her true feelings to Mitsuo (Perman) in "Pako's treasure".

Apart from Animation Series, in both of Movie Series:

• Perman Movie Robotic Panda: When Perman gets late for his Perman duty and comes late from school, Pako gets angry and asked why he was late and that she was worried about him. When Perman asked "Why do you even think about me ?". At that, Sumire (aka Pako) simply stated "I like you, Mitsuo." She also vouches for him when Birdman gets angry at him and tries to punish him by turning him into an animal when he neglects his Perman duty in favour of playing a video game at home.

• Perman Movie Octopus Attack:

Multiple times, Sumire gets jealous when Mitsuo touched other girls' hand even her own copy robot's hand. At the ending scene, Pako said to Perman that she is Sumire but he takes it a joke and starts laughing to which Pako gets angry. Later Pako fumes in jealousy because Mitsuo takes robot Sumire's hand leading Payan teasing Pako for her reaction.

Michiko Sawada[]

Actress Sumire Hoshino is greatly admired and respected by Michiko. Although Michiko also respects Pako for her brave personality and indomitable nature as we see in the episode "Miss Sumire does an outstanding job" and they are even good friends, but still sometimes they engage into arguments as Michiko tries to get into Mitsuo's life. In the episode "Michiko knows Perman secret", we've seen Sumire (Pako) and Michiko's catfight over who would stay with Mitsuo at his house and take better care of him.

Hozen Oyama[]

Hozen Oyama (aka Payan) is a friend and team-mate of Pako. He is mostly tasked in reconciling Mitsuo (Perman) and Sumire (Pako) whenever they argue and stop talking to eachother. He is trusted by Pako however she sees him just as a good platonic friend and shows no romantic interest towards him. He is known to tease the pair for their obvious romantic feelings towards eachother. He roots for Pako and Perman's relationship and supports it.

However, in the episode "Sumire-chan is cute!", when Perman and Pako fight with eachother and start ignoring eachother, he decides to visit Sumire (whom he knows as Pako's best friend) to sort the matter out for them since he himself failed at pacifying Perman and Pako this time. On his visit, he accidentally sees Sumire activating her robot which baffles him completely and he starts romanticizing himself with Pako and having a future with her to the point when Mitsuo states to him that he should apologise to Pako for his rough attitude earlier, he actually discourages the former from apologising and talks bad about Pako so that their friendship is not mended. Later, he prompts to go on a patrol with her alone and there, he talks about Mitsuo negatively, asking her to move on from him and seek a better man for herself. He is also overly pushy towards her on going out for dinner with him or maybe on a date night to which Pako politely declines. He tried his best to break the bond between the pair so that he may get a chance with whom he thought was Sumire.

Later, when Pako and Mitsuo talk with eachother over his odd behaviour (which a fearful Payan, afraid of his plan getting exposed, overheard from behind the balcony), they come to the conclusion that perhaps it was a new ploy by him to reconcile the two, he instantly barges into the room and concludes that it was his trick all along and flies off mournfully, pretending to be happy for the two. He yet again thinks of Sumire however later, when Pako gifts him an inflatable Sumire doll which looks just like her, as a present for reconciling her and Perman, he comes to the conclusion that he must have mistook the inflatable doll as robot and laughs, his apparent crush and romantic interest totally gone in a second.

It is note worthy that it is the only time Payan showed any romantic interest towards Pako or mentioned his liking towards Sumire in the entire series.
